The Story of Black Diamond

Garumedang Tektites Geosite (GTG)

Garumedang Tektites Geosite (GTG) is an educational site of world geological heritage featuring rocks resulting from an asteroid event 800 thousand years ago. GTG is the only geosite in the Asian region that highlights the topic of meteorite events or "Astrobleme" . This astrobleme event is extra-terrestrial producing tektites. These products were discovered by tin miners first reported by Van Dijk in 1879. The tin miners called it "Black Diamond" .

This black diamond is tektites known as "Billitonite" which the Hakka descendant miners called "Satam" (Tin Gall). The history of "Satam" discovery is closely related to alluvial tin mining. Therefore, GTG also provides information about the occurrence of alluvial tin.
